Positional testing is an essential component of Videonystagmography (VNG). Here’s what you need to know:
Purpose:
Positional testing involves moving your head or body into different positions to provoke specific eye movements.
It helps identify abnormalities related to changes in head position and provides valuable information about the health of your inner ear.
Abnormal responses during positional testing can aid in diagnosing various conditions that affect balance.
Test Procedure:
During a VNG test, you wear special goggles equipped with a camera to record your eye movements.
Your audiologist instructs you to move your head or body to different positions.
The goggles record how your eyes respond to these movements.
Additionally, VNG tests may include caloric testing, where warm or cool air or water is sent into each ear to induce nystagmus.
Duration:
A typical VNG test lasts around 60 minutes.
